Custom domain

Serve a project's hosted pages on your own hostname, with your own certificate. reviews.acme.com instead of a shared link — the same pages, your brand in the address bar.

Project → Custom domain.

What changes

Your wall, collection pages and surveys answer on the custom hostname. The old links keep working and redirect there, so nothing you have already shared breaks.

On your domain Serves Old link (still works, redirects)
https://reviews.acme.com/ the wall of love /p/<key>/wall/
https://reviews.acme.com/<slug>/ a collection page /p/<key>/<slug>/
https://reviews.acme.com/s/<slug>/ a hosted survey /s/<key>/<slug>/

Nothing else answers there — no dashboard, no login, no API. A visitor who lands on your domain sees only the pages you publish.

Requirements

  • The Team plan (or Enterprise).
  • A subdomain you control, such as reviews.acme.com — not a bare apex (acme.com), because the setup is a single CNAME, which most DNS providers will not allow at an apex.
  • One domain per project. A team with several brands gives each its own project and its own domain.

Set it up

  1. Add the hostname. Open Project → Custom domain, type it in, and save.
  2. Add two DNS records at your registrar, exactly as the page shows them:

    Type Name Value
    TXT _withfeedback.reviews.acme.com withfeedback-domain-verification=…
    CNAME reviews.acme.com domains.withfeedback.com

The TXT record proves you own the name; the CNAME points it at us.

  3. Check now. We verify the records and attach the domain.

  4. Wait for the certificate. Issuing it is automatic and can take up to an hour. When it is done the status turns Active and your pages are live on the hostname.

The page refreshes itself while it is working. If a step is not right yet, it says what it is still waiting for.

reCAPTCHA on your domain

If the project requires a bot check, it needs a reCAPTCHA key registered for your hostname — ours only covers withfeedback.com.

  1. In Google's reCAPTCHA console, create a v3 key and register reviews.acme.com on it.
  2. Paste the site key and secret key on the Custom domain page. The secret is stored encrypted and never shown back; leave it blank to keep the current one, or use Clear keys to remove both.

While the keys are missing

If the project requires a bot check and the domain has no keys, the page is misconfigured: the video recorder is not offered there and text submissions are flagged for the moderator. It never silently accepts unchecked traffic. Add the keys to clear it.

Remove a domain

Remove detaches the hostname. Your default URLs keep working immediately; someone who bookmarked the custom hostname gets a plain "page not available" notice rather than a broken site.

Limits

  • No apex domains — use a subdomain.
  • Emails we send (survey invites, unsubscribe, consent) keep linking to the default host; the redirect carries the visitor across to your domain.
  • The embeddable widget and its API are not served on your domain — it hosts the pages, not the script.
